Wet Belt Replacement
Peugeot/Citreon/Vauxhall Wet cambelt, Puretech petrol engines.
The wet cambelts are more likely to degrade than traditional cambelts or timing chains due to exposure to engine oil, heat, and other environmental factors.
Signs that your cambelt may need to be checked include:
- Misfiring engine
- Rough idling
- Difficulty starting the engine
- Changes in the belt's appearance
- A squealing noise
- Low oil pressure!
These cambelts require replaceing more fequently than other timing belt systems. The oil pump pick up screen gets clogged with belt fibers, reguardless of the mileage or age of the old belt I always remove the sump and clean the pick up screen and cam phaser solenoid. Fresh Peugot grade oil and filter are installed along with a new wet belt.

Ford EcoBlue 2.0 Diesel Wet cambelt
Known as the EcoBoom! Ford also use a wet belt system to run the engine. Oil slowly degrades these belts over time allowing the belt fibers to block the oil pump pick up screen.
Regular oil servicing with the correct oil helps flush out these fibers but not all are removed.
Using Ford supplied parts both wet belts, camcover, sump pan, oil pump pick up and oil are renewed.
Signs that your cambelt may need to be checked include:
- Misfiring engine
- Rough idling
- Difficulty starting the engine
- Changes in the belt's appearance
- Louder engine noise
- Oil leaks
- Low oil pressure!
- Hard brake peddle
Ford has recently renewed the replacement intervals from
150k miles or 10 years to
100k miles or 6 years
although this is reduced so with as little as 30k miles are failing.
I reccomend regular oil changes between 6-10k miles
and the belt replacement between 40-80k miles
Obviously this is dependant on how the engine has been maintain.
